Roosevelt John Simmons was born on February 5, 1942, in Walterboro, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Mr. Paul Simmons and the late Mrs. Azalee Simmons Aiken. He departed this life to be with the Lord on Monday night, February 6, 2023, at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, South Carolina.
He lost his hearing at a young age. He graduated from Spartanburg School for the Deaf and Blind. After graduation, he returned home and eventually moved to Florida and from there to New York City where he drove bus for the transportation department. After living several years in the city he moved back home and worked for Walterboro Pallet Company until retirement.
Ministers for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing visited his home regular for Bible studies.
Roosevelt was preceded in death by his sons, Kevin and John "Little John" Simmons, and brothers, George "Booker T." and Woodrow Simmons.
He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memories his daughter, Patrice Simmons Washington (Jerome) of Georgia; his grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Crystal Terry-Simmons and son, Darryl Terry-Simmons of Lawrence, Georgia; his loving sister, Cynthia Aiken Farmer of Walterboro, South Carolina; loving long-time friends, Beulah and John Brown of Beaufort, South Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
