Mrs. Rosa J. Lawton was born on January 13, 1941 in Islandton, South Carolina to the late Willie and Artlee Lawton. She entered into eternal rest on November 7, 2024 surrounded by her family.
She was educated in the public schools of Colleton County. She was also raised in the home of Uncle and Aunt Macro and Annie Wiggins of Smoaks, South Carolina.
Later, she met and married Douglas Sutter of Springtown, South Carolina. To this union, five children were born. They moved to Brooklyn New York. There she worked at the Department of Social Services in New York until she retired and moved back home to South Carolina.
After returning home, she rejoined her church, Greater Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church where she serves as a trustee faithfully until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Sutter; her parents, Willie and Artlee Lawton; her two children Michael Sutter and Renell Sutter; two grands, Jamel and Akeem; four brothers, Lorenzo, Aaron, Cleroy, Glendale; two sisters, Myrtle Risher and Gertrude Lawton.
She leaves to cherish her memories her sons, Jake Sutter of Conyngham, Pennsylvania and Wasmig Bey of Johnstown, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Wanda Wactor of Saint George, South Carolina; ZaQuan Corbett, Talaal Sutter and Shakeema Carr of Walterboro, South Carolina, were all reared in the home as her own children; twelve grandchildren; twenty-seven great- grandchildren; twenty-four great -great grandchildren; two sisters, Minister Helen (Russell) Jenkins of Smoaks, South Carolina and Margie Lawton of Islandton, South Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Rosa Duodo of Springtown, South Carolina, Diane Lawton of Riverdale, Georgia, and Winnifred Sutter of Springtown, South Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
