A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022, 11:00 AM at St. Peters AME Church, 300 Fishburne St., Walterboro, Reverend Leon Maxwell, Pastor Eulogist. Interment will follow at Live Oak Cemetery, Walterboro. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, Friday, August 12, 2022, 4:00-7:00 PM.
Rose Chestnut Grant was born on August 25, 1925 in Colleton County to the late Benjamin Franklin Chestnut, Sr. and the late Ethel Burns Chestnut. She departed this life on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Roper Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.
She grew up and attended school in New York City. She later moved back to Walterboro, South Carolina. At an early age, she joined St. Peters A.M.E. Church. She moved her membership to the Episcopal Church of Atonement. There she remained a faithful member. She served on the Women Auxiliary, the United Thanks offerings, and Liaison for the Church of Atonement of Walterboro, South Carolina.
Rose was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Eddie Grant, Sr. To this union, ten children were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Franklin Chestnut and Ethel Burns Chestnut; her husband, Eddie Grant, Sr.; two brothers; one sister; one grandson; one granddaughter; a daughter-in-law, Mary Grant; and four brothers-in-law.
Rose leaves to cherish her memories, her loving children, one daughter, Lola Mildred Crawford; nine sons, Eddie Jr., Johnnie West Berry (Eva), Joe Edward (Phyllis), Arthur (Ann), Phillip Bernard, James (Celia) Willie (Regina), Jeff, Ricky (Fannie); one step-son, Willie James Rivers; two brothers, Akbar B. Muhammad and Bobby Brown (Julia) of New York; four sisters, Mary Francis, Margie, Mary Ann and Nettie Mae Bryant of Yalaha, Florida; thirty-six grandchildren; seventy great grandchildren; ten nieces and a host of cousins, other relatives, friends and neighbors.
