Sarah McCoy Evans, 81, widow of Paul Evans, entered into eternal rest Friday, April 9, 2021, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born in Clarendon County, October 31, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Jimmy McCoy and Darkey Davis.
Sarah lived most of her early years in Alcolu, South Carolina and attended the public schools of Manning, South Carolina. During her high school years, she played basketball, a sport she adored.
When she was a young adult, she gave her life to Christ and was baptized at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church in Alcolu.
In 1958, she was joined in matrimony to the late Paul Evans and from this union they had eight children.
Sarah did not talk much, but to know her was to love her. She showed her love through her genuine compassion and caring nature for others. She was a special lady that loved and cherished each and every moment of her life. She loved listening to gospel music, playing bingo and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Paul “PJ” Evans; a granddaughter, Cherrelle Renee Evans; seven brothers and four sisters.
Her memory and legacy will be honored by her seven children, O’ Neal Evans, James Earl Evans, Robert Evans, Delphine Evans and Diane (Larry) Pearson all of Sumter, South Carolina, Jackie Lee Evans and Janafer Evans both of Columbia, South Carolina; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Ella Rose Hayward of Sumter, South Carolina and Mary Jane McCoy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ; special family and friends, Marie Davis, a sister in law who helped raise her and Ebony Davis who was like a granddaughter ; Frances Montgomery, Ruby Glisson, and Deborah J. Williams who always looked out for her, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
