Sidney Way Obituary

Sidney Way, son of the late David Way and Bessie Sally Way, was born February 11, 1957. On July 11, 2026, at Edisto Post Acute in Orangeburg, South Carolina, he completed his earthly journey and entered into eternal rest.

Sidney received his education in Colleton County and later pursued further studies at Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College in the area of Welding. He used those skills, along with his natural ability and work ethic, in his employment as a pipe fitter and in construction work.

“Speed” or “Waco,” as he was affectionately called by family and friends, enjoyed fishing and traveling throughout the United States. He was always dressed impeccably-what many would call, “Dressed to a T.” He believed the way a person carried himself reflected character, confidence, dignity and respect; he lived by that example every day.

Spending time with Speed was always a pleasure because there was never a conversation without a lesson to be learned. He loved sharing stories of his travels, offering words of wisdom about getting ahead in life, and encouraging others to carrythemselves with a focus on self-respect. Speed/Waco’s laughter, wisdom and life experiences captivated everyone around him. Whether he was telling that intriguing travel story, or simply enjoying the company of those he loved, Speed/Waco left a lasting impression on every heart he touched, especially the young men who crossed his path. He will be remembered not only for his impeccable style, but for the kindness, guidance, and inspiration he shared so generously with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, David Way, Sr. and Bessie Sally Way and one brother, Rev. Anthony Way.

Sidney Way leaves behind a legacy of kindness, guidance and inspiration. Sidney Way will be greatly missed by his two sons, Sidney Latrel Way, and Mario Varner, and their mother, Joyce Varner, all of Walterboro, South Carolina; one brother, DavidWay, Jr. (Gloria Felder), of Orangeburg, South Carolina; one aunt, LouAnn Adams (George), Walterboro, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Kimahri, Jemeriah, Ameriyana, Trinity, Miyana, Mario, Jr., Sidney II, and Brielle; several nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
