Silvester Simmons Obituary

Silvester "Big Sexy" Simmons was born on June 6, 1965 in Walterboro, South Carolina to Mrs. Silvia Simmons and the late Isaiah "Boot" Simmons. Silvester departed this life on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, South Carolina.

Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Bethel United Methodist Church, Smoaks, South Carolina at 1:00 p.m.  Reverend Jimmy Washington, Pastor and Eulogist.  Interment, Church Cemetery.  A public viewing will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Stephens-Maree-Tracy Funeral Home Chapel of Serenity from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. 

(THOSE ATTENDING SERVICE ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR FACIAL MASKS, AND SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL BE ENFORCED.) 

Silvester attended the Public Schools of Colleton County and graduated from Ruffin High School with the class of 1983. While at Ruffin, he excelled in academics and sports. He played football, baseball and ran track. He won MVP Lineman two years back to back in football his Freshman year (9th), and his Sophomore year (10th). In his Junior year, he was Rookie of the Year in baseball and varsity MVP in football.

His favorite pastime was playing softball with the 21 Go Getters. He started playing 2nd base and took on the pitcher's mound. He played until he became the assistant coach, and later becoming the head coach, teaching and training the youth and fellow team mates to become team players.

He joined Bethel United Methodist Church at an early age.  He was an active member of the Bethel Male Chorus and a member of the United Methodist Men.

After High School, Silvester learned the trade of Drywall Finishing. He was employed with Interior  Systems and Conklin Construction, both in Charleston, South Carolina.

Silvester was united in Holy Matrimony to Ms. Joyce Williams on October 25, 1997 and to this union, three children were born.

He was preceded in death by his father, Isaiah Simmons; one sister, Linda Marie Linnen; his grandparents, Mr. Russell (Lillie) Simmons and Mr. Roosevelt (Eva) Hodges.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Mrs. Joyce Simmons of the home; one son, Marcus (Anita) Williams of Aiken, South Carolina; four daughters, Tiffany Williams of Charleston, South Carolina, Shaneka Williams and Cierra Williams, both of the home, Whitney Jenkins of Walterboro, South Carolina; thirteen grandchildren; his mother, Silvia Simmons of Smoaks, South Carolina; one brother, Tony (Devarn) Simmons of Smoaks, South Carolina; two sisters, Gloria (Isaiah) Jenkins of Smoaks, South Carolina and Shara (Terry) Walters of Sumter, South Carolina; one Goddaughter, Quineasia Morris of Orangeburg, South Carolina; five sisters-in-law, Ella (Larry) Crosby of Ehrhardt, South Carolina, Gloria Terry of Round O, South Carolina, Donnie (James) Belton of Orangeburg,
