Sonya Regina Adams Towns, affectionately known as “Gina” was a devoted loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend was born in New York, New York on September 6, 1962 to parents George Adams Jr. and Lou Ann Adams. She peacefully transitioned this life on June 20, 2024 at the Inspira Medical Center in Mullica Hill, New Jersey.
Raised in New York City, Sonya grew up in the Bronx from 1962 until 1978 when the Adams family relocated to Walterboro, South Carolina. She attended the old Walterboro High School and graduated with the Class of 79”. She proceeded to further her education attending Trident Tech for a year before enlisting in the United States Air Force at the age of seventeen. She later became an Optometrist in 85” after being honorably discharged in 1984. In 2014 she graduated from Southeastern College with a certificate in Medical billing & coding.
In Sonya’s spare time she loved to cook just as much as she loved to eat. She was a foodie known for her infamous salads that were layered like she was. She never skipped on the toppings and made sure to share pictures with you to brag a little. Now Gina as most of her family knows her was the life of the party. When her jam came on there was no stopping her from moving and grooving to her music. She loved to travel, meet new people, and share different experiences with each other. Through her travels, the one she shared the most was the time she spent in Athens, Greece. She exemplified compassion in all aspects of life. Her guidance and encouragement were a source of inspiration to all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on each soul she encountered. Sonya cherished her family above all else. Her unconditional love and selflessness knew no bounds and her legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched.
Sonya leaves behind to cherish her memories: two sons, Anwar D. Towns of Charleston, South Carolina and Rashad K. Towns of North Charleston, South Carolina; five Grandchildren, Shamya Nelson, Makayla, Makenzie, Anwar-Amere, and Kennedi Towns; parents, George Adams Jr. and Lou Ann Adams of Walterboro, South Carolina; one brother, Duval C. Adams of Stone Mountain, Georgia; one sister, Tanya Ellington of Greer, South Carolina; two daughters in love, Lawanda Dwight of Summerville, South Carolina and Tomeia French of North Charleston, South Carolina; nephew Treyvar Smith, special friend Dwight Grantham, and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
