Thurmond B. Bowers

Mr. Thurmond B. Bowers, son of the late Ernest Bowers, Sr. and Shirley Myers Bowers, was born on August 18, 1950 in Greenpond, South Carolina. On April 1, 2023, Thurmond traded time for eternity and departed from this earthly shore. He was raised in Colleton County  and educated in the Public Schools of Colleton County. He was a graduate of Colleton High School, class of 1970. After high school, Thurmond pursued a number of career paths, one of which he pursued whole heartedly, being a truck driver.

In 1979, he met Debra Bryant at one of his baseball games. Three years later, on May 29, 1982, the two of them were joined in Holy Matrimony. To this union, three daughters were born, Stacy, Adrianne, and Angel. Thurmond later joined Bethel United Methodist Church of Smoaks, South Carolina, where he served faithfully on the Usher Board.

Thurmond was one of a kind. To know him was to love him. He was the type of person that wherever he went, his presence would be known. He was very opinionated but also a very giving person. His favorite past times were hunting, fishing, playing baseball, cooking wild game, spending time with his family, watching westerns and football. His favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. Thurmond was so loved by his family, friends, and those of the community. He was a great husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. His presence will truly be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Shirley Bowers; a daughter, Angel Bowers;  father and mother-in-law, Isaiah and Miriam Bryant, siblings, Tom, Clotine, David, and Christopher Bowers, George Gethers, Eve Cromedy and Annell Givens; one brother-in-law, Isaiah Bryant, Jr.

A lifetime of memories will forever be held by his loving wife of forty years, Debra Bowers of Greenpond, SC;  his daughters, Stacy and Adrianne of the residence, Wanda Chisolm of Greenpond,SC, and  Denae Maxwell of Jacksonboro, SC; son, Dorian Edwards (Charlena) of St. George, SC;  eleven grandchildren; Anthony, Donte', Brianna, Jared, Jaden, Shaniqua, Kenneth, Ken, Jnad, Jazmine, Kenyon, and his "Boobie" Kelsey; four brothers, Ernest Bowers, Jr. of Jamaica Queens, NY, Donald and Charles Bowers of Greenpond, SC and Kenneth Bowers (Laverne) of Cleveland, TN; five sisters, Lou A. Smalls of Hackensack, NJ, Shirley Foster (Jesse) of St. Louis, MO, Eva Poole of Marlton, NJ, Kathy Patterson of Monroe, NC and Dr. Mary Alexander (Joseph) of Silver Spring, MD; four sisters-in-law, Theo Smoak (Albert), Kathy Jenkins (Randolph) and Betty Pinckney (Marvin) all of Smoaks, SC, Carolyn Alleyne (Lionel) of Jonesboro, GA; one brother-in-law, Harold Bryant (Olga) of Smoaks, SC and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
