Tommy Simmons Obituary

Tommy James Simmons was born on January 27. 1941 in Walterboro, South Carolina to the late Phillip Simmons and Felicia Williams Simmons. He departed this life on November 6, 2021 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, Columbia, South Carolina.

He  attended the public schools of Colleton County. After graduation, he was employed at the Old Fort Meat Factory in Walterboro, South Carolina for many years until he moved his employment to Broyhill Furniture where he retired after thirty years. One of Tommy's favorite sayings was "I try to treat everybody right because, you don't know who you are going to need." He was always willing to help anyone in need. If you needed a ride anywhere and he was able to assist you, he did. At our yearly cookouts, he would invite everyone he could think of. He showed love to everyone.

Tommy accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where he served faithfully. He was a longtime active member of Sunlight Lodge # 221 of Walterboro, South Carolina.  He enjoyed the many opportunities of fellowship with his Sunlight Lodge Brothers.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, Gladys Olivia Montgomery Simmons; his daughter, Florence Montgomery Bartley; son, Tony Leroy Montgomery; grandson, O'Brian Bartley; two brothers, Lee Williams and Freddie Williams; two sisters, Barbara Ann Folk and Lutricia Moore.
