Verlie P. Bowman was born on January 10,1939 to the late Alexander Pate and Lizellen Logan in Cottageville, SC and raised by her grandparents Joseph and Essie Logan. On February 7, 2026, she peacefully entered rest, leaving a legacy of love, faith, and kindness that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
Verlie accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of St. John AME Church, Cottageville, SC.
Verlie was educated from Colleton County School District. Verlie retired after 29 years of service from Colleton County School District.
On September 22, 1961, Verlie was united in holy matrimony to the late John Bowman Jr. and from the loving union two beautiful children was born.
Verlie was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Pride of Walterboro #189. Verlie was a charter member of Zeta Amicae chapter with Pi Theta Zeta Chapter Smoaks. Verlie served faithfully as a class leader, steward, stewardess president, choir president, president of the pastor aid board, a faithful member of the women missionary society, and was willing to served where it was needed until her health began to decline.
Verlie was preceded in death by her husband, John Bowman Jr., her sisters Ander Louise P. Kinsey, Deloris P. Jenkins, her uncle John Henry Logan.
Precious memories will be cherished by her loving children: Stephannie Simmons, Sagrion (Cindy) Bowman, Four grandchildren: Zesta Simmons, Zachary Simmons, Kayla Bowman, Sagrion D. Bowman. One great grandchild: Ezekial J. Simmons, first cousins that were raised like sisters: Dorothy Harris, Essie (Laurie) Jerido, and Johnnie Logan; two brothers-in-law: William (Emma) Bowman, Amos (Mary) Bowman, and a sister-in-law: Betty Bowman. A special niece Doris Simmons. A host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
