Obituary

As God was taking His usual daily walk through His flower garden, on Thursday, July 20, 2023, selecting who He was going to take home with Him that day, He looked over in a row and saw that one was getting a little weary and had grown tired. So He plucked Vernon Rhone, Jr., and said, “Give Me your hand, My child, and come on home to rest from your earthly labor. Everything is all right now!”

Mr. Vernon Rhone, Jr., affectionately known as “Kenny Rhone” to everyone he loved, was born August 25, 1966 in Queens, New York, to his parents Vernon Rhone, Sr. and Vera Youngblood Rhone Cooper. They both preceded him in death. However, he was raised in Walterboro, South Carolina. He was christened at a very early age and served on the youth choir and the youth group at Wesley United Methodist Church, also in Walterboro, under the leadership of Reverend Nathan A. McClennon.

Vernon was educated in the Colleton County School District and was a member of the Walterboro High School Class of 1984. He was employed in retail, from a teenager, for many years at Walterboro’s Novit-Siegel Men’s Clothing Store. Later in life, he was employed in construction. At the time of his demise, he was a resident of Claxton, Georgia.

Vernon was fun-loving, always so full of life, with a big smile on his face, every time you saw him. One thing that he loved to do was to make others laugh. His joyful nature will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Vernon Rhone, Jr., leaves to cherish his fond memories: his lifelong partner whom he dearly loved, Sharon Canty; his oldest daughter, Quienna Broughton and her four children, Quadir, Nah-sir, Christienna, and Synai; his youngest daughter, Kendra Rhone and her two daughters; two brothers, Caprest (Deborah) Rhone and Haywood (Christy) Cooper; nieces and nephews; three aunts, Mae Francis Williams, Earnestine Cochran, and Deola Johnson; and a host of other cousins and relatives and many, many friends who loved him.
