Vernon Junior Simmons was 79 years old. He was born to the late Merrick Simmons, Sr. and the late Sadie Simmons on December 23, 1940 in Lodge, South Carolina. He departed this life on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, South Carolina. Home-Going Service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. in the Stephens-Maree-Tracy Funeral Home Chapel of Serenity. Pastor Merrick Simmons, Jr., Eulogist. Interment, Heavenly Rest Memorial Garden, Walterboro, South Carolina. There will be a public viewing from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Saturday, May 30, 2020.
Vernon was a very hard worker. He worked a total of thirty-two years for the City of Inverness, Florida as a General Laborer and worked his way up to Foreman where he supervised most of the general operations of the City. Vernon retired from the City of Inverness in 2003.
Vernon excelled in football and baseball and was an avid hunter. He also loved fishing.
Preceding him in death are his parents Merrick Simmons, Sr. and Sadie Simmons; and his son Randy Simmons.
Left to cherish his memories are his sons, Vernon Simmons, Jr., William E. Simmons, Henry A. Simmons (Pamela); his daughters, Wanda Dunn (Wayne), and Tammy Williams; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Merrick Simmons, Jr.; his sister, Lillie Mae; his uncle, Lurtis Simmons and a host of cousins and nieces other relatives and friends.
