Victor Dennis Obituary

Victor Lamar Dennis, affectionately known as “Dutch”, was born July 13, 1961, in Harlem, New York at Harlem Hospital. Victor’s life began in Brooklyn, New York with his parents being Margaret Dennis and Ramon Quiñones. Early in his childhood he went to live in Charleston, South Carolina with his grandmother Ora Jane Porcher—Dennis and became well versed in the Geechee culture. Although Charleston was not his permanent home, he visited his family there every summer, eventually carrying on that traditional travel with his children.

Back in Brooklyn, Victor went to Automotive High School where he learned the basics of mechanics, played basketball and made friends that lasted his entire life. Palmetto street is where Victor grew up and learned so many life lessons that he carried into adulthood. He was so proud to be from Palmetto Street and kept that love and pride in his heart indefinitely. Early in his 20’s he converted to Islam and lived by the values for the rest of his life. Although Brooklyn was his home, he moved to New Jersey in his late 20s where his legacy continued.

When you think of Victor “Dutch” Dennis, you think of joy, fun, laughter, excitement, protection, authenticity, love and most of all FAMILY. His family and friends have endless memories of him that make them laugh hysterically, smile proudly and/or reflect gratefully. You think of the jokes he could never finish telling because he was too busy laughing himself. You think of how clean cut he was with his fancy three-piece suits or Polo button up ironed to perfection. You think of how he would help anyone in any way he could and his payment in return was for you to help the next person in need.

To try and sum up Victor “Dutch” Dennis’ life in a few short paragraphs is an impossible task. We know that his children and grandchildren were his world, and he was immensely proud of each of them. His family meant so much to him and it was imperative that they knew it because each time he spoke with them, he ended the conversation with I love you. Victor’s friends were so close that his children called them uncle as if they were blood. Those who had the privilege of knowing or meeting him understand that he is a force that made a lasting impression on their hearts. Those of us who had the honor of him loving us, will forever carry him within us. He is immortal and will live on for eternity, because as he says, “We don’t die, we multiply”.

Victor is survived by his wife Luzviminda Morales; three children, Victoria Juanita Dennis-Sumpter, Victor Juan Dennis and Victor Joshua Dennis; three grandchildren Zy’Asia Kimora Jenkins, Zariyah Janay Sumpter and Demontae Alexander Sumpter; his sister Willette Dennis-Wilkins; two nieces, Porcher Wilkins and Porsha Wilkins; nephew, Keith Wilkins; ten grand-nieces and grand-nephews; countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
